The NÖ Dokumentationszentrum für Moderne Kunst was founded in 1978. The original aims of the organisation, which still apply today, are to present exhibitions and document contemporary art, archive data relating to art, publish material relating to contemporary art, maintain a photographic library and a collection of biographies particularly of Austrian artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. The range encompasses art from Lower Austria, Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Poland, the former Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Turkey and all parts of the Federal Republic with the emphasis always on Austrian artists. The archives cover at present approximately 5,000 biographies.
