The original Casino Salzburg opened in 1934 in the Mirabell Palace but in 1977 moved to the Café Winckler on Mönchsberg, now the site of the Museum of Modern Art. Expansion of the facilities required a further move in 1993 to the present location, the Baroque Klessheim Palace. The magnificent Palace was designed to the plans of the famous builder Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach, inspired by the Palace of Versailles. Today the combination of the Baroque architecture and the modern games gives the casino its unique ambience.
