Housed in the former armoury built by Maximilian I for the manufacturer of gunpowder and cannon, this museum depicts the history of the Tyrol region. Beginning with the silver mines which were exploited in medieval times the exhibits also include artefacts from the religious struggles of the 16th century. Andreas Hofer, the leader of the struggle for Tyrolean independence from Napoleon’s armies, is given a great deal of space. See the rudimentary weapons with which the Tyrolean insurgents fought and find out more about their remarkable successes. Also discover how significant Hofer is to the Tyrol region as well as watching a film about his life.
