Considered to the finest regional heritage museum in Europe, the Tiroler Volkskunstmuseum was first established in 1888 by the Tyrolean Trades Association with collections displaying the outstanding products of Tyrolean trades and crafts. The main emphasis is on arts and crafts and the extensive collections include costumes, peasant furniture and tools from the various regions of Tirol as well as glass and pottery, cane chairs, textiles, metalwork and religious and secular folk art. The three floors of the museum also house several carefully restored rooms from local and regional houses from the Gothic to the Rococo periods.
