As well as a good range of artefacts including archeological finds, Gothic statues and altarpieces, the unrivalled range of paintings should not be missed. There is a decent collection of Dutch and Flemish masters but most prominence is given to ‘Pustertal Painters’, from the 15th century, who introduced Italian Renaissance techniques into central European art. There is a great overview of Michael Pacher’s work which was much sought after in the late 1400’s. 20th century Austrian art is also covered with work from Klimt, Kokoschka and Albin Egger-Linz. The original reliefs from the Golden Roof are also on view.
