The Pöstlingbergbahn is Europe’s steepest mountain railway, confirmed by the Guiness Book of Records no less, carrying passengers up a 255 metre ascent from Linz Urfahr in the valley to the top of Pöstlingberg. The remarkable railway, built in 1898 and designed by the engineer Josef Urbanski, originally operated with vintage carriages from the turn of the century but these are now being supplemented with modern ones built in a retro style. Apart from the wonderful views at the top of the climb there are other attractions such as the fairytale Grotto Railway.
