The building of the Wallfahrtskirche Maria Laach was begun in around 1380 on the site of a much older church. The establishment was incorporated into the Bavarian Kollegiatstift Vilshofen in the early 15th century and its history is somewhat obscure until the Reformation. The church became a place of pilgrimage after the reported miraculous healing of a blind child in 1719. The interior of the church boasts many fine features including a number of elaborate tombs of the members of the von Kuefstein family. The interior was remodelled in the Baroque style in the late 17th century but still retains its beautiful Gothic winged altar from 1480.
