The exhibits of the Dental Museum show how dentistry has changed since the 17th century, with displays of numerous devices and tools, starting from a simple barber’s stool to the first dental drills operated by foot as well as the first fluoroscope. One of the most interesting exhibits demonstrates the connection between the martyrdom of Apollonia and the dental profession. According to legend, Apollonoa’s torture was to have all of her teeth violently pulled out or shattered. So she is popularly regarded as the patroness of dentistry and those suffering from toothache or other dental problems. This museum is definitely not for the squeamish!
