The Bezirksheimatmuseum is devoted to the history, culture and economic development of the district of Lilienfeld, a district made up of fourteen Waldviertel municipalities. The exhibits are devoted to many different facets of local life; the “Via Sacra”, the mining industry, the artists of the Upper Traisental, local wildlife, geology, weaponry, handicrafts, agriculture and rural equipment. Flax was grown round Lilienfeld for centuries and the museum has a two hundred year loom and an exhibition of the process which converts flax to linen.
