Peter Guet’s allegorical Fountain of the Planets, dating from 1582, can be found in the beautiful arcaded courtyard of the Landhaus. The central column features bronze statues representing the Moon, Mercury, Venus, the Sun, Mars and Saturn with Jupiter above them. Coincidentally, Johannes Kepler, the German mathematician who discovered that the Earth and planets travel about the sun in elliptical orbits and gave us the fundamental laws of planetary motion, taught at the nearby Protestant Landschule.
