The Ökumenische Kapelle is a twentieth century church which was built on the site of a much older chapel. The Kalladorf congregation voted, in 1972, to demolish the existing chapel, which had fallen into a state of massive disrepair, and replace it with a new building. The Office of Monuments ruled that the tower should be renovated but demolition and reconstruction of the chapel could go ahead. Work was started in 1973 and the new building was consecrated in June 1974 by Archbishop Dr. Franz Jachym. Much of the cost of the new church was born by the congregation who also proved six thousand hours of voluntary building work.
