This often overlooked museum is small but contains an astonishing display of religious art. Sculpture, tapestries, jewellery, artwork, and stained glass ranging from the 12th to the 18th century are all included in the exhibits. Many of the pieces, including the altar pieces and statues, have been recovered from churches across the region. Two pieces, dating from the 12th century, include the ‘Magdalenscheibe’ from 1170, which is a portrait of Mary Magdelene and Austria’s oldest piece of stained glass, as well as an exceptional iron processional cross made with traces of gilt.
