Founded in 1911 at its present location the botanical gardens are situated in the University grounds. With more than 5,000 different species of plant from all over the world it is a great place for relaxation and learning. The plethora of flora and fauna includes edelweiss, gentian, alpine roses, arnica and some endangered alpine flowers, but it also extends beyond alpine varieties to incorporate species from all sorts of different plant communities and climates, some housed in magnificent tropical greenhouses.
