Gutenstein’s parish church was built by Duke Leopold VI at the same time as the castle, around 1220 AD. The church unites many different architectural styles. Evidence of the original Gothic building can be seen in the choir and vestry and there are certain Renaissance features, for example the marble grave stones. Predominantly though the building is Baroque in style with 19th and 20th century additions. There are a number of outstanding stained glass windows including a representation of “The Escape to Egypt” and a portrait of St. Aloysius.
