The Viennese banker Franz Shaup opened the first Zipf brewery in 1858, which makes it quite a young brewing concern for Austria. His success in brewing the then fashionable Pils style beer was later enhanced by technical innovations such as artificial cooling and distribution by rail such that production had grown to 200,000 hl. by the breweries 100th anniversary. Of course you can try the products at many outlets in Austria but it tastes best at the brewery which offers tours by prior arrangement.
