The earliest representation of Wolfpassing’s impressive castle shows it as a typical 16th century building with 17th century additions, such as an onion dome on the tall clock tower. The building replaced an earlier mediaeval castle and, unlike its predecessor, had little or no defensive capabilities against proper military attack. The present layout of the castle is due to the changes made by Ferdinand Count Auersperg in 1747 and the removal of the clock tower which took place in 1884. Inside the castle is a beautiful chapel containing two framed reliquaries from the time of Pope Urbans VIII and two pyramidal reliquaries from Pope Clemens XI.
