The ruins of Schloss Wildeneck, lying in the Schoberwald, can be reached by foot from the west bank of the Irrsee. The path leads past a historic barn, industrial remains and a mill to a steep ascent to the castle which emphasises how effective the fortress was in protecting the area from its enemies. The building, built by Graf Rapoto I, originates from the 12th century although, over the course of the next few centuries, it was destroyed and rebuilt more than once. Finally, in 1611, the castle was abandoned and fell into ruin. The path leads past the castle to a hill with a wonderful panoramic view.
