The Modernist building of Wien Museum houses permanent and temporary exhibitions, presenting Vienna’s, and other cities, history. Exhibits include Roman archaeological finds, Gothic stained glass and statues, artefacts dating from the 16th and 17th century Turkish sieges of the city, and a wealth of paintings. Among the art on display is ‘Pallas Athene’, by Gustav Klimt, an entire room designed by Adolf Loos, a glass cabinet by designer Kolo Moser and a collection of works by Egon Schiele, including the disturbing ‘Blind Mother II’. The fin de siècle section of the museum is well worth a visit.
