The Waidhofen local museum contains the Waldviertler Webereimuseum, or weaving museum. The Waldviertel has traditionally been closely associated with the weaving industry and, during the 19th century, almost every household owned a loom. Towards the end of the same century, the majority of the population made a living from weaving. The museum has a comprehensive collection of textile machinery from the region including a historic hand loom, a 18th century weaving mill and a ribbon weaving machine. Various collections are devoted to different aspects of the trade; ribbon weaving, the manufacture of fabrics, the production of flax and the preparation of the raw materials.
