The Wachaumuseum can be found in the Teisenhoferhof, a building dating from 1335 and, from 1439 to 1465, the house of Heinrich Teisenhofer. Teisenhofer, whose coat of arms can be seen over the gate, extended the building and added the inner courtyard. The military walls, two towers and the arcading date from the Renaissance. Over the years the building has served many purposes, for example as a courthouse. Today, the building houses the local museum which concentrates on the history and practise of viticulture. There are displays which illustrate the whole process of wine making, from growing to fermentation as well as everyday life in the Wachau.
