Although this amusement park, reputed to be the oldest in the world, boasts numerous attractions, including several white-knuckle rides as well as more traditional dodgems and ghost trains, it is the Riesenrad which attracts the hoards. This giant ferris wheel, its silhouette dominating the skyline of the Prater district, was built in 1898 by Walter Basset, a British military engineer. As well as being one of the top attractions in Vienna, giving a superb and unique view of the city, it also featured in the film ‘The Third Man’, being the site of Orson Welles’ famous ‘cuckoo clock’ speech.
