The People’s Garden is situated on the site of the old Burgbastei which was destroyed by Napoleon’s troops in 1809. Opened in 1920, it was laid out in the style of the Luxembourg garden in Paris and its roses, shady alleys and comfortable park chairs and benches provide a tranquil place to sit and reflect. The monument of Franz Grillparzer, The Temple of Theseus and a marble monument of the enthroned Empress Elisabeth can all be seen within the gardens.
