This is a diverse collection of ecclesiastical treasures amassed over seven centuries by Grand Masters of the Teutonic Order and is one of the oldest in Vienna. Exhibits range from ordinary coins, crosses and seals to fossilised adders’ tongues, able to detect poisoned food. There is an impressive display of arms and armour as well as the art collection of Archduke Maximilian III. Amongst the more prized possessions are a 13th century coronation ring, a charter by Pope Gregory IX and the embroidered vestments for the Order of The Golden Fleece.
