The history of wine making in the lower Traisen valley dates back to Celtic time, making it the oldest wine producing region in Austria. The Traisen Valley Wine Trail follows a route which takes in sites and experiences connected with this industry. The idea is that you should reach a spiritual understanding about wine and also work up a thirst. Over fifty wine taverns in the area serve the local types of wine, the most famous of which is white Gruener Veltliner. There are also plenty of delicious red wines to choose from. Naturally, the taverns also serve food which can be enjoyed in the delightful establishments.
