The Sumerauerhof is a 19th century farmstead, basically unchanged since it was built in1856, which houses Austria’s oldest open air museum. The building, with its square courtyard, was originally part of an abbey and goes back to the 13th century. There is a huge range of material on display here relating to agriculture and rural life in Austria. The original farm features include the large meat safe, the bakery, the fruit press and the stables. There is an interesting exhibition of painted rural furniture spanning four centuries and example of folk art showing how peasants, noblemen and the middle classes lived.
