The village of Strobl is situated on the eastern side of the Abersee, actually the eastern part of the Wolfgangsee. The village name derives from a local family of iron trader’s who are commemorated in the village coat of arms. Strobl’s popularity as a resort derives from its proximity to Bad Ischl, where the Emperor had his summer residence. Today, because of the wide, flat lakeside and long, natural bathing beach, Strobl is a popular and important tourist destination with modern facilities and a broad range of sports and leisure facilities.
