Meaning ‘beautiful well’, this imposing and ostentatious palace has been placed on the World Cultural Heritage List and is a superb example of Gesamtkunstwerk. Designed by Johann Bernhard Fischer and built during the 18th century, it gradually changed its shape and style during the reign of successive Habsburg monarchs. It now consists of almost 1500 rooms and the splendid Prunkräume (state rooms) include the Mirror Hall, Ceremonial Hall, Blue Chinese Salon, Vieux-Laque Room, Napoleon Room, Porcelain Room, Millions Room and Great Gallery; each well worth a visit for their sumptuous décor and furnishings.
