The GeoZoo Salzburg, located south of the city, houses a huge variety of animals, approximately 500 in number, in large natural themed enclosures on a 14 hectare site. The 140 species are from all over the world; Eurasia, America, Africa and Australia and wild animals from Europe, such as the chamois, wolverines and brown bears are especially well represented. The zoo is famous for its animal breeding, medicine, behaviour, nutrition and species protection research. Visitors can also take advantage of the zoo restaurant and gift shops.
