The Puppenweltmuseum is devoted to the dolls made by Katharina Kruse, the wife of the sculptor Max Kruse. She was encouraged by her husband to create dolls which were more lifelike than those previously available which he felt were thought were cold and unnatural. Sales to the public commenced in 1910. The museum houses the collection of Dr. Franz and Reingard Ecker which, besides showing the dolls, furniture and accessories, presents them in cleverly arranged groups representing domestic activities from the past such as cooking, shopping, reading, baby care and taking tea.
