The establishment of the pilgrimage centre of Maria Seesal, in Kleinprolling, dates from the second half of the 19th century. In 1864 a wooden chapel was built on Kirchenhügels but was soon replaced, in 1872, by a neo-Baroque building. Once again, between 1904 and 1906, the site was redeveloped and a new neo-Baroque church was built with twin towers and an Art Nouveau interior. The high altar is a simple classical creation, dating from 1790, which once graced a side chapel of the pilgrimage church of Sonntagberg and was transferred to Ybbsitz in 1900.
