The parish church "Unbefleckte Empfängnis Mariä” is at the historical centre of Zeiselmauer. It stands on the site of the principia of the former Roman camp, a fact which is emphasised by the existence of a stone flag coffer in the church crypt. Probably, because of the location of the tomb, the site probably already had cult religious significance in late Roman times. The heart of the building, amongst the oldest in Lower Austria, is Carolingian, dating from the 9th century. The choir is Gothic and dates from the second half of the 14th century as does the nave. After the Turkish war, the church was remodelled in the Baroque style. The gorgeous high altar, dating from 1740, was formerly in the Abbey of Tulln.
