Yspertal’s parish church, dedicated to saint Laurenz, has its origins in Roman times as evidenced by the existence of a Roman gravestone outside the vestry. The church’s choir and the base of the tower are basically Gothic, dating from the 14th century. The building was devastated in the Thirty Years War and restored around 1650 when the nave was remodelled and three altars were set up. In 1739 the church was subjected to full Baroque makeover, the crowning glory of which is the elegant tower with a polygonal spire resembling a pear.
