The patron of Wolkersdorf’s parish church is St. Margaretha, whose patronage is celebrated on 13th July each year. The Gothic church was established around 1350 but owes much of its present appearance to a Baroque makeover sponsored by Karl VI in 1727. Other changes to the presbytery, nave and tower where generously supported by Maria Theresia. Outside, on the stairway leading to the church entrance are six life sized statues of Saints Joseph, Maria Immaculata, Leopold, Karl Borromaeus, John of Nepomuk and Florian. The parsonage dates from 1797 and in 1809 was used by Emperor Franz I before the battles of Aspern and Deutsch Wagram.
