Weistrach’s Pfarrkirche, which is a late Gothic hall church, is dedicated to St. Stephen and was first mentioned in 1151. As such it is an outstanding example of the Danube school of architecture, with impressive vaulting covered by a sophisticated pattern of tendril-shaped ribs. This decorative characteristic of Gothic architecture persisted well into the 16th century, particularly in this part of Austria. The church contains many fine works of art; paintings, sculptures and a magnificent altar.
