The fortified parish church of the Assumption can be reached from the centre of Weissenkirchen up a covered flight of steps. The imposing Gothic building, which was built in 1190, is surrounded by a defensive wall and towers, and looms over the picturesque village with its historic houses and vineyards. In the square in front of the church there is an 18th century statue of St. John of Nepomuk. The interior is somewhat austere but there is a fabulous Baroque marble and gilt pulpit which is crowned by a canopy with cherubs.
