The Late Gothic parish church of Traismauer is dedicated to St. Rupert. In 1973 its crypt was excavated uncovering a history which dates back to the period between one hundred and nine hundred AD. The church lies on the site of an erstwhile Roman encampment as indicated by the discovery of the remains of the wooden structure. There is also evidence of the Roman stone building in the form of screen and foundations. The final surprise in the excavations was the location of a Carolingian grave with funereal objects.
