A 15th century building is home to the old blacksmith’s shop of Otto Schmirler, which was still in operation as late as 1974. Making gates and railings, locks, window grills, and other fancy ornamental ironwork the workshop is now open to the public and has been made into a museum dedicated to the work of the blacksmith. The blacksmiths were required to be able to handle every variety and size of iron bar in the fire and thus the forges were used to make items of all sizes, from large gate frames to small animal heads and flowers.
