Rediscovered by accident in 1979 during renovation work, these frescoes depict the poetry of the aristocratic minstrel Neidhart von Reuenthal. The works were commissioned around 1400 by Michael Menschein, a wealthy cloth merchant, but were covered up when the house was refashioned in Baroque style during the 18th century. Having been encased in plaster for some 250 years the paintings are patchy but the restoration work shows some rather jovial scenes of snowball fights, ball games, dancing and general medieval high spirits.
