The Waldviertler Schmalspurbahn connects Gmünd and Groß Gerungs and passes through Weitra. The railway is over one hundred years old and runs both steam and diesel locomotives throughout the Summer and Autumn and also around Christmas, as commercial operations ceased in 1992. The track runs through some of the regions most outstanding scenery via bridges, viaducts and two tunnels, the largest of which is 262 metres long. Each train is provided with a carriage containing a snack bar.
