The Musikverein and the ‘Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde’ (Society of Music Lovers) are inseparably linked and this concert hall, known throughout the world as the centre of Viennese musical culture, is a mainstay of the international concert circuit; classical music heaven. Built by Theophil Hansen in 1860, the façade mimics the Opera House, and it is home to the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra. The astounding acoustics and opulent décor can only really be appreciated by attending a concert in the ‘Goldener Saal’ (Golden Hall) but any one of the rehearsal and concert halls are worth a visit.
