The Museum der Moderne Mönchsberg is spectacularly situated on the site of the former Café Winkler which, for many years, housed the Salzburg casino. After the casino moved to Kleßheim castle the Winkler remained empty for some time and was eventually replaced with the museum, opening in 2004. The new museum, with its contemporary architecture, has been designed to offer the broadest range of exhibition formats and other museum activities. The collections are shared with the Museum der Moderne Rupertinum and the museum features exhibitions painting, sculpture, graphics and photography with an emphasis on art of the 20th century.
