This, the ‘Tanzmeisterhaus’, was the home of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his family from 1773 to 1780 and during these years here he composed numerous symphonies, serenades and divertimenti and also five concertos for violin and a number of piano concertos. Today it contains exhibits connected with the life of the Mozart family and the history of the building, including replicas of the types of instruments which Mozart played and original family documents. In fact, the original building was largely destroyed in an air raid in 1944 and the present building is a replica built to the original plans. The museum, which was opened in 1996, also houses the Mozart sound and film collection.
