St. Gilgen’s district court house houses the Mozart-Gedenkstätte, a memorial room set up to house a collection of portraits and documents connected with the family of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This is the house, where Mozart’s mother, Anna Maria Walburga Pertl, was born in 1720. Mozart’s grandfather held a position here as a judicial officer and it was during his tenure that the court house was rebuilt in its present form. Nearby there is a beautiful Mozart fountain with a bronze statue of the famous composer.
