The Johann Michael Haydn Museum, in the court of St. Peter’s Abbey, contains an exhibition showing the life and times of this great Austrian composer and performer. Johann Michael Haydn was the brother of Joseph Haydn. He was concertmaster, organist and music teacher at the Kapelhaus at the court of the Archbishop of Salzburg and as such had a formative influence on the contemporary world of music. The museum, which opened in 2006 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the death of the composer on August 10th 1806, is run by the Johann Michael Haydn Gesellschaft.
