Although much of what you see now is 19th century restoration, having been desecrated and then used as an arms depot and stable by Napoleon’s army, this church was mentioned in documents dating from 1158. This magnificent Gothic structure with its 56m tower, a distinctive feature of the old city skyline, was built on the banks of the old arm of the Danube, and is still an architectural gem. The stained glass windows contain fragments from medieval times and there are fine examples of Gothic panels, statues and paintings within.
