Housed in the Palais Liechtenstein, this museum has a large collection of paintings by Rubens, renowned pieces by van Dyck, Lucas Cranach and Raffael, as well as works by Rembrandt, van Ruysdael and Hamilton; the private art collection of the Liechtenstein family. Only opened to the public relatively recently, the collection, belonging to one of Europe’s oldest families of noble lineage, also includes weaponry, porcelain, bronzes and an enormous library decorated with trompe l’oeil frescoes. Highlights include the 18th century gilded family coach and the spectacular Hercules Hall, the largest secular baroque hall in Vienna.
