The Rococo masterpiece, Schloss Leopoldskron, is located just a few minutes away from Salzburg’s old town. It stands in a tranquil setting next to a small lake, the Leopoldskroner Weiher, with a fantastic view of the majestic Untersberg mountain. Max Reinhardt, the founder of the Salzburg festival, once owned the palace where he staged many productions and it is considered to be the home of The Festival. The palace gardens featured in the film “The Sound of Music”. Today the palace is privately owned but it can be admired from the lakeside walk.
