This superb example of Jugendstil architecture was commissioned as a chapel for the city’s main psychiatric hospital. Designed by Otto Wagner, leader of the Viennese architectural revival of the late 19th century, along a north-south axis to allow for more light and featuring a beautiful gilded dome, it was completed in 1907. There are two beautiful stained-glass windows; one showing the theme of mercy and the other “Dante’s Paradise Lost”. The main altar is equally impressive with a gilt baldachin set against a mosaic scene which includes St. Leopold and other saints.
