Karl Heinrich Waggerl was one of Austria’s most popular authors having sold more than seven million books which were translated into a dozen languages. Waggerl served as an officer in the First World War and, following his release from prisoner of war camp moved to Wagrain where he began writing full time in 1923. Waggerl, whose prose focuses on the lives of ordinary people such as artisans, labourers and farmers, was also an accomplished photographer. The Waggerl museum, which contains is housed in the author’s former home.
