The Kapitelschwemme, formerly a place for watering and washing horses, can be found in the Kapitelplatz, opposite the Archbishop’s Palace. The pond, commissioned by Archbishop Leopold Anton Firmian in 1732, is decorated with magnificent sculpture showing Neptune standing on a sea horse and with two water spouting Tritons. The structure was designed by Georg Raphael Donner and executed by Joseph Anton Pfaffinger (d. 1758). The Kapitelschwemme was the subject of a particularly difficult but very successful renovation in recent times.
